Saluting
the First Black State Troopers in America
The History Committee has began to collect biographies, pictures and articles
pertaining to America’s First Black State Troopers. This project began
in April of 2008 and will be highlighted during the 2010 Summer Training Conference
when we celebrate the NBSTC’s 25th Year Anniversary. The committee will
also be researching key legislation which provided their opportunity to serve.
The committee plans to contact each state’s Department of Public Safety
and other national black law enforcement organizations as a means of obtaining
information and bring awareness to the project.
Also, big thumbs up to President Guy Packwood and the New Jersey Chapter who
took the opportunity to honor Trooper Paul McLemore, New Jersey’s First
Black State Trooper. The event took place on September 13, 2008. Trooper McLemore
was presented an NBSTC Resolution for his service. The well- attended event
also doubled as a rally point to recruit members into the New Jersey Chapter.
